Reflections on Footprint+

Phil Etchells, Associate Director, on his time at Footprint+ :

‘Last week I had the pleasure of attending Footprint+ at Old Billingsgate in London. The event, focussed on decarbonisation of the built environment, brought experts and leaders from across the industry together to share knowledge about how we contribute to a sustainable future.

As well as seeing a huge amount of innovation and thought-leadership, it was a privilege to be part of Savill Earths panel discussion on retrofit using our imminently completing Havelock project in Manchester as a case study.

What struck me the most was the importance of having real-world examples to act as benchmarks of innovation to demonstrate the practical challenges faced and design solutions developed. Just like the buildings we design we need to be flexible and adaptable in order to collectively seize opportunities to create buildings that minimise their impact and also operate as efficiently as possible.
