Welsh Church Submitted

Our scheme to restore and transform the Grade II Listed former Welsh Presbyterian Church in Toxteth for the charity Kids in Need and Distress (KIND) has been submitted for planning approval.

The building has suffered from serious neglect under previous owners and is on the Heritage at Risk Register.  Merseyside Building and Preservation Trust (MBPT) have taken on the building in order to secure its long term future. The William and George Audsley-designed complex was an important focal point for Liverpool’s Welsh community up until its closure in the 1980s.

The project will transform the ruined structure and its former Sunday school into a new base for KIND.  The charity has been based inside the former Liverpool City Farm for the past 25 years have worked tirelessly to find new ways to help children and families across Liverpool and Merseyside cope with the effects of poverty and disadvantage.

The ambitious project will provide a platform for the charity to greatly enhance and expand its services. Once complete, the new site will house a variety of flexible multi-purpose spaces, a roof garden, cafe, all-weather play areas and outdoor learning spaces all of which will benefit from the integration of low carbon environmental measures.

The design team for the project includes Chambers Conservation, DP Squared, Crookes Walker Consulting and Xanthe Quayle Landscape Architects.
