Arrow Street Receives Planning Approval

01.05.2020

Planning approval has been secured for an extra-care dementia friendly development of 70 apartments on Arrow Street in Salford with affordable housing provider Salix Homes.

The scheme has been designed  in partnership with Salford Clinical Commissioning Group to  provide much needed specialist accommodation for older persons who require various levels of care and support within Salford.
The scheme received full planning permission, which consists of a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments for social rent.

The 2.1-acre site was previously made up of a terrace row of houses which were demolished over 10 years ago. Since clearance the site has been left vacant as open land.

The approved scheme is comprised of three brick and standing seam metal cladding clad blocks, connected by simple glazed links. The building will provide 70 dwellings with associated communal amenity accommodation in a landscaped garden setting. The architectural expression of bay fronts and dormer windows echoes that of the site’s original Melbourne Street terraces.

The project is the first extra care scheme undertaken by Salix Homes, and reflects its ambition to provide high quality accommodation for the most vulnerable members of society. In addition to the spacious designed apartments future residents will be able to access communal facilities including a café, hairdressers plus a yoga/fitness studio.
